Joy and rejoicing is a particular theme in the book of Philippians. Let’s have a look at what Paul says there: Paul prays with joy for the Philippian Christians, because of their partnership with him in the gospel. The Book of Mormon offers a promise for anyone who reads and prays about it: “And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost.
The psalmists write, “Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning” (Ps. b) and “Shout for joy to God, all the earth” (Ps. ). Likewise, in the New Testament, we read that joy is a fruit of the Holy Spirit (Gal. ), which means that it is a Christian virtue. Jesus is an example of someone who found joy in the good to come. When Jesus was crucified, there was no joy in that particular circumstance, but tells us that He still found joy. “Looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.”.
